Biography
Joseph Skorman is a director, editor, and motion graphics artist whose career spans more than two decades across television, commercials, film, and music videos. Known for bold creative choices and a unique ability to shape story with both precision and imagination, his work bridges the commercial and the cinematic, bringing artistry into the world of brand content and polish into the world of independent film.
As an editor, he has crafted award-winning campaigns and broadcast content for global brands including Apple, Facebook, Adobe, Dell, and Aerosmith, blending technical mastery with a keen sense of narrative rhythm. His post-production career includes senior editorial and engineering roles at Indigo Films, where he cut programming for PBS, Discovery, Travel Channel, and Investigation Discovery, as well as shaping commercial marketing campaigns with 1000 CUTS in Los Angeles. Across this work, he has been recognized with multiple Telly Awards and industry accolades for his contributions in editing and motion graphics.
In parallel, Skorman has built a distinctive directorial voice. His short film Loose Cannons won three Audience Choice Awards across international festivals, while his collaboration with Chrystabell and David Lynch on Night Ride premiered on Pitchfork.com before an extended cut debuted at the Marfa Film Festival. Continuing that collaboration, he served as co-creative director with Chrystabell, shaping stage visuals, tour posters, and album artwork, before directing the acclaimed video 52 Hz, which premiered at the Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival and online at Gizmodo’s i09. His music video work also includes Jet Boy’s Beating the Odds and Westberg’s Nostalgia, as well as Blackheart (2018), a deeply personal cinematic memorial to his brother’s suicide, released on World Suicide Prevention Day to raise awareness for mental health.
Whether editing high-profile commercial campaigns or directing visually daring narratives, Skorman brings the same commitment to storytelling: a fusion of technical excellence, conceptual boldness, and emotional resonance. His projects have been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Pitchfork, Indiewire, Dazed, Black Book, and Paper, and his work continues to blur the line between artistic experimentation and wide-reaching commercial appeal.
