Biography
Solenne Piret, born on August 2, 1992, in Lagny, France, is a French professional climber. She competes in para-climbing in the AU2 category and is known for her outdoor achievements, where she specializes in bouldering.
Solenne Piret has the unique characteristic of being born with agenesis of her right forearm. She grew up in a family of climbers in the Paris region and spent her weekends in the Fontainebleau forest with her parents and siblings, but wasn't immediately interested in climbing. She tried various sports, including fencing, before focusing on her studies. She attended INSA in Strasbourg and graduated as an architect.
It wasn't until 2017 that Solenne Piret truly began climbing. Back in Paris, she discovered the Arkose climbing gyms. During a training session, she met Julien Gasc, a member of the French para-climbing team, who told her about competitions. For Solenne Piret, this was the turning point. She participated in the French championships and then qualified for the international stages. This marked the beginning of a meteoric rise in lead climbing competitions (the only discipline open to women in para-climbing).
She participated in the Para-Climbing World Cups and finished 2nd in Briançon in 2018 (RP2 category), then won in Innsbruck, Briançon, and Los Angeles in 2021 (AU2 category), taking all the stages of the season. In 2022 and 2023, she won every stage she entered. At the national level, Solenne Piret became the French para-climbing champion in 2022, ahead of Lucie Jarrige (RP3 category, by grouping). At the World Championships, she won gold in AU2 in 2018 in Innsbruck and in 2019 in Briançon. In 2021 in Moscow, she competed in the RP2 category following a regrouping and won her third consecutive world title. At the following edition, in Bern in 2023, she again won gold in the AU-2 category.
As for outdoor climbing, Solenne Piret mainly boulders in Fontainebleau, but also during trips to Europe and the Americas. She has completed several 7B boulder problems such as "L'angle plus que parfait" (The Angle More Than Perfect), "La Faim du Tigre" (The Tiger's Hunger), and "Onde de Choc" (Shock Wave), which is particularly memorable as this demanding route is a goal for many climbers who stop in Fontainebleau.
