After the breakdown of the old government, and with it the First Republic, Italy changed for good in 1994. Spinster Leo is all too aware of this. During the crucial debate between candidates Silvio Berlusconi and Achille Occhetto, Leonardo Notte struggles to defend his position in the party, while political opponents and his own conscience try to bring him down.

Veronica is now a Member of Parliament, but her credibility is challenged by her co-workers. She finds support in her female colleagues when she decides to contribute to an important cause.

Pietro is now undersecretary of the new Interior Minister. The two have to choose between compromising with Berlusconi or being loyal to their party, while Pietro has to deal with some family problems.
