The Napping Kingdom's Ambitions
This episode follows the story of Ryner Lute, a lazy, sleepy student from Roland Empire Magician’s Academy. While Ryner is searching for relics of the so-called ‘legendary heroes’, he is confronted with soldiers from the Nelpha Empire, who use Nelphan magic in an attempt to kill Ryner, thinking he is a spy. But Ryner, using his Alpha Stigma, an ability in which he uses his eyes to analyse forms of magic, copies their magic, and counterattacks. Not wanting the enemy to learn and copy any secrets of their own magic, the Nelphan soldiers stop attacking. Suddenly, Ferris Eris, a young, beautiful girl from the Swords-Clan comes to Ryner’s aid. Though she was too late to stop the attack, she begins to explain to the Nelphans that Ryner couldn’t possibly be a spy. While Ryner was busy arguing with Ferris about “what does it make you, following that fop around”, the Nelphans attack yet again, this time Ferris showing them not to mess with a swordswoman.

The Hero and the Sleepy Man
Sion, a student at Roland Royal Special Military School decides to form a team with Ryner and some other students for mock battle training. While going to the library to research, he discovers Ryner, asleep at a desk. The next morning at the academy’s exercise field, the students practise battle skills, with the exception of Ryner, who is still half asleep. Kiefer, a female student is training with Ryner, but each spell hits Ryner directly. Putting no effort whatsoever into training, Ryner collapses in a heap on the ground, playing dead. Sion walks over and offers him a place on his team. At first, Ryner declines, thinking he is being joked around. But when Sion says “I like your eyes”, referring to Ryner’s Alpha Stigma, Ryner realises Sion is being serious. Sion, Ryner and the rest of their team begin the mock battle training. The first mission is an easy win for the team, and they celebrate afterwards, toasting to their success.

Alpha Stigma
Ferris and her little sister, Iris, are interrogating one of the nobles behind the plot to assassinate Sion, when suddenly, Ferris’s brother appears and kills him. He tells her that they must decide whether Sion would be suitable as the king, and that he couldn’t possibly return alive after heading into battle and facing 50 magic knights. Then, as suddenly as he appeared, he vanished into this air. Meanwhile, the students are preparing the base for the battle ahead. Ryner is meant to be setting up tents ready for nightfall, but as usual, he is tired, lazy, and lies on the grass, refusing to help. Ryner walks over to and sits beside her. After begging Ryner to run away with her, she confesses her love for him. He believes it’s all a hoax, and tells her to quit joking around at a time like this, during the war. She agrees, and bids him farewell, walking through the tall grass. As soon as she leaves, the Magic Knights of Estabul attack the camp, and...

Ryner Report
When authorities discover Ryner’s power and magical ability he possesses due to the Alpha Stigma, they lock him up in prison, out of fear for their kingdom. After befriending a prison guard, life for Ryner becomes easier. He begins to write a report while in prison, about war, power, struggle, peace and afternoon naps. However, after two years in prison, his execution is decided. The prison guard opens Ryner’s cell and leads him to the prison gates. There, he meets Ferris, whom he hasn’t seen for over two years, and has forgotten. She however remembers him, and when she tells him her duty is to help him escape, he believes it is a trick, and attacks her. He is soon shown not to mess with her, and continues on towards the Roland Kingdom Palace. He discovers that much has occurred during the past two years, and since his imprisonment, Sion has become King.

A World That Has Begun To Awaken
Having traveled to Nelpha, Ryner and Ferris run into Toale Nelphi while researching the hero relics in the town library. Meanwhile, dissent in Roland escalates to the assassination of Fiole Folkal, a commoner who was made secretary to the king, reported during a royal banquet. While Ryner and Ferris stays at Toale's house for dinner, Ryner meets Iris Eris, sister of Ferris, who deems herself to be a the only source of contact to Sion. Soon Miran Froaude arrives, offering to aid Sion for whatever means necessary, even to such desperate measures.

Those Lurking in the Darkness
Sion takes Froaude as his new assistant to Nelpha, where another assassination might occur at the next royal banquet. Ryner and Ferris are asked to be on a lookout outside the manor. Froaude mistakes the two as potential threats, clashing with them using his sorcery against their magic, leaving Ferris wounded. The ring that Froaude wears was given to him through inheritance, allowing him the ability to perform shadow magic. Froaude leaves after saying he will let Toale live for the time being. Ryner and Ferris leave Toale's house the next morning to continue their search for the hero relics.

Don't Let Go of That Hand
At the Nelpha fortress, Ryner and Ferris find nothing but a box of tax evasion papers. Both Sui Orla and Kuu Orla first believed that the box contained treasure, but they are dismayed as well. Milk tries to pursue Ryner away from Ferris inside a forest, but she is easily defeated and tied up. Ryner finds a hero relic in the form of a blade buried underground, using it to prevent the Nelpha army from capturing Milk. However, in the midst of confusion, the blade transforms into a dragon and chases the army away across the countryside. When Milk nearly gives up the hope of carrying out her duty, Luke Stokkart reminds her of the reason why she became the leader of her taboo hunter squad.

The Estabul Revolt
Froaude provokes mutiny between Roland and Estabul, which is not what Sion had in mind. Noa Ehn, facing the cruel reality of a life of politics, wishes for peace between the two kingdoms. Claugh Klom leads his army to defeat the opponents, soon reaching toward the main stronghold.
