About
Chung Kwok-Chu is a renowned food critic and an assistant editor-in-chief of a newspaper, Ko Jim Daily. When his son, Si-Hon returns from Canada, Chu is disappointed to find that Si Hon intends to become a chef rather than taking up a professional career. His attempts to guide his son away are thwarted when Shum Bui-yee, a well-known and respected chef, reluctantly accepts Si-Hon as her assistant. Meanwhile, Kwok-Chu struggles to keep peace amongst extended family members.

Episode 1
Renowned food critic CHUNG KWOK-CHU is invited by a new restaurant to give comments on their food. AU KO-WING and TIN HOI find the service and the food quality of the restaurant unacceptable. In fact, WING and HOI are CHU’s colleagues. CHU, who is also an assistant editor-in-chief of a paper, gives negative comments on the restaurant in his paper. Editor-in-chief CHIN TAI-KWAN tells CHU the restaurant, whose owner is a celebrity, is complaining them. CHU settles the matter tactfully. SUEN MA-LEI and HOI join CHU and his wife, TAU KWAI-SUM, for dinner. HOI tells them, CHUNG SZ-HON, CHU and SUM’s son, is returning to Hong Kong soon. HON has returned from overseas and is staying at LEI’s for the time being. He is preparing a surprise birthday party for CHU. CHU meets with the boss of a fast-food chain to look for a job for HON. KWAN and TAI SZE-HING see them. LEI finds a half naked male westerner in her place.
Episode 2
HON and JOE are making cakes in the kitchen. LEI is shocked to hear that they have already registered in Canada. For fear that CHU cannot take the news, SUM and LEI try their best to prevent CHU from meeting HON. HON announces at CHU’s birthday party that he is going to stay in Hong Kong and that he wants to be a cake chef. CHU smashes the cake in anger. Although HON does very well in his job interview, he does not get the job because of CHU’s intervention. HON is returning to Canada. LEI offers to finance his cake shop with a view to making him stay. HON has a talk with CHU, who agrees not to interfere with HON’s career choice if he can cook a Chinese banquet that CHU finds satisfactory. HON takes up the challenge.

CHU has lost his fountain pen. Then he sees a woman picking up a fountain pen. He requests her to give it back to him but they end up in a quarrel. KWAN tells CHU Joyful Kitchen has hired SHUM PUI-YEE, who is better known as the Kitchen Goddess, recently. As YEE is very close to celebrity UNCLE KAU, KWAN believes she is worth an interview. He prods CHU into taking up the task of interviewing her. CHU does not know until he arrives at Joyful Kitchen that YEE is the woman who picked his pen. Accusing him of badmouthing her, she refuses to give an interview. HON asks HOI to recommend a cooking school to him. HOI advises him to learn from a prestigious chef. YEE agrees to give CHU an interview for the sake of UNCLE KAU, though she calls him a cultural scoundrel in the interview. On the other hand, HON decides to become YEE’s student.
Episode 4
HON discovers that YEE earns the same reputation as her fellow colleague ROGER, a western chef. He goes to Joyful Kitchen to look for YEE again ROGER challenges him to a cooking test. ROGER wants HON to be his assistant. HON will only agree on the condition that he can learn cooking from YEE. YEE has no choice but take HON as her student as requested by ROGER. YEE needs HON to shop for cooking ingredient. He cannot find the Chinese marinade she wants. CHU tells him to go to an outlying island, but HON discovers on the Internet that the address CHU has told him is now a bar. He did not know until then that his father has been making things difficult for him. KWOK-TUNG, CHU’s younger brother, mediates between the father and son but CHU blames him instead. HON is drunk. CHU covers him up with a blanket. HON pours his heart out.
Episode 5
Entertainment news assignment editor HING has taken photo of LAU CHUNG, their supplement writer, going out with a woman. KWAN would like to publish the photo, but CHU thinks the photo is not telling the truth. The two have a fierce argument. The Turkish Culture and Tourist Office would like to place an advertorial. CHUNG and other writers refuse to do it. KWAN orders that CHU resolve the matter. HOI tells CHU a travel blog titled “The World on a Shoestring” attracts a daily hit of over ten thousand. CHU thinks very highly of the blog owner’s articles. He tells HON to write an email invitation to the blog owner. His reply does not come until the last minute. The sound of TUNG using the computer has awakened CHU. He complains to TUNG. TUNG is so furious that he hits hardly at his computer, which breaks down as a result. HON learns by chance that TUNG is the blog owner.
Episode 6
SUM and her friend see a flowerpot falling from a building. Just when it is about to land an old woman, who is pushing a pram, TUNG goes up to their rescue. He knocks over a passer-by called MABLE in the process. MABLE adores his heroic act. SUM wants to line up MABEL and TUNG. TUNG tells HON to deliver to MABEL’s for him. SUM blames herself for minding TUNG’s business. TUNG is looking for a dress. HON believes it is for his new girlfriend. He tells SUM not to worry too much about TUNG. TUNG wants to make a bohemian dress. He asks SUM to recommend a tailor. He shows her a photo. She cannot believe it that the woman in the photo is their neighbor MRS. KUNG. CHU looks for TUNG at a restaurant and accuses him of going out with somebody else’s wife.
Episode 7
BIU, supplement editor, is immersing himself in horse racing broadcast when CHING puts a proof at his desk for endorsement. He tells her to redo the layout afterwards but she insists she has done nothing wrong. CHU walks out of his room and tells her to do as requested. A Macau hotel has placed an advertisement as well as an advertorial for its Portuguese restaurant. CHU assigns the writing of the article to BIU. BIU and HOI have returned from Macau. HOI has bought a Portuguese baked duck rice for CHING. She can tell Mediterranean Rosemary has been added to the dish. BIU has mistaken a chicken bouillon powder recipe for the hotel’s recipe. CHING cannot reach BIU. And so she suggests replacing the recipe to CHU, claiming she will be responsible for the consequence.
Episode 8
CHING corrects the recipe after she has clarified with the hotel. On the other hand, CHU puts the printing on hold when the new layout is being done. HON takes a cake his father’s office. He lets it slip that BIU is going to another paper while he is chatting with HOI and CHING. CHU overhears their conversation. WING, CHING, KWAN and HING are all of the view that BROTHER TSUI of Ching News will be BIU’s successor. CHU hopes CHING can take up BIU’s editor role, but she prefers the status quo. CHING has a shooting appointment with best actress MAGGIE. HING interviews her for the entertainment page before CHING has a chance to. CHU reasons with KWAN, the editor-in-chief, but to no avail. MR. KO, their boss, calls and commends on CHING’s feature article. CHU tells him right away he intends to promote her. KWAN, however, recommends HING to MR. KO instead.
