Een jaar geleden riep president George Bush de wereldgemeenschap op tot de “War on terrorism”. Nu bijna een jaar later vraagt Tegenlicht zich af hoe deze ‘nieuwe oorlog’ er in de dagelijkse praktijk uitziet en vooral hoe hij gevoerd moet worden. Hoeveel weten we van onze vijand, wie zijn de hoofdrolspelers en waar is het front in deze nieuwe oorlog? Welke lessen hebben we geleerd sinds 9/11 met betrekking tot onze eigen veiligheid.

Een reconstructie van de Britse regisseur Paul Yule van de gevangenenopstand in een fort in Noord-Afghanistan, die eind november 2001 bloedig werd neergeslagen door Afghaanse en Westerse troepen. Terwijl er over het algemeen weinig beelden zijn van de strijd tegen de Taliban in Afghanistan, is de opstand minutieus vastgelegd door aanwezige journalisten. Yule maakte aan de hand van gesprekken met de journalisten en de gemaakte beelden een schokkend verslag van wat zich in het fort op het hoogtepunt van de militaire operatie 'Noble Eagle' afspeelde.
De War on Drugs deel II
Tweede deel van de uitzending over de Amerikaanse oorlog tegen de drugs, waarin de vraag wordt gesteld wat de impact van dit 'perpetuum mobile' is op het leven van veel gewone Amerikanen. Want als de oorlog door moet gaan, moeten er wel steeds nieuwe slachtoffers worden gevonden.

Tweede deel van het tweeluik over de wapeninspecties in Irak in de jaren negentig. De Verenigde Staten maken zich op voor een oorlog tegen Irak omdat dit land zich niet zou houden aan de resoluties van de Veiligheidsraad. Maar hoe weigerachtig zijn de Irakezen eigenlijk? Wat hebben de wapeninspecties in de jaren ’90 opgeleverd en waarom ging het in 1998 precies mis? Op 13 en 20 oktober een reconstructie van de wapeninspecties in Irak in de jaren '90, door de medewerkers van UNSCOM die daarbij betrokken waren.
Nederland in analyse
Na de moord op Pim Fortuyn en de daverende verkiezingsnederlaag van de Paarse coalitie waren de commentaren in het buitenland eensluidend. Nederland had zijn onschuld verloren en was niet langer gidsland, modelstaat of wonder van economisch vernuft. De mythe van veel werd met een simpel pistoolschot verbroken.
Weg met de multi-culturele samenleving?!
Aanpassen of wegwezen is de ondertoon van het politieke debat over minderheden. Maar hoe verhoudt dit politieke gekrakeel in Den Haag zich tot de rauwe werkelijkheid in bijvoorbeeld Leerdam? Ondanks een oer-Hollandse decor met kaas- en glasfabriek, is Leerdam ook al veertig jaar lang heel multicultureel met Molukkers, Turken, Marokkanen en Somaliërs. Recent braken er rellen uit. De aangewezen plek dus om een debat te voeren over de haalbaarheid van de multiculturele samenleving in de praktijk.
