Tucked away in a corner of Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea is the curry restaurant "Cat's Restaurant" run by Yu-Mi. She doesn't have very many customers, but Yu-Mi tries to stay the course. One day, Yu-Mi's restaurant is vandalized and she notices a guy standing behind her. Yu-Mi ends up knocking him out with her groceries. When he wakes up, the guy is unable to remember his own name. Until he regains his memory, the man helps out at Yu-Mi's restaurant.

Oh Man-Bok (Kim Hyang-Gi) lives with her family which includes her father (Park Chul-Min), mother (Ra Mi-Ran), older sister (Na Hae-Ryung) and older brother (Shin Dong-Woo). Her family loves her and treats her with kindness, but Oh Man-Bok still yearns to meet her birth father. After her birth parents separated, her mother passed away from cancer and her adoptive parents have taken care of her since then. One day, Oh Man-Bok watches a music competition TV program and realizes the song that is being performed is the same song her mother sang to her. During the show, the singer mentions that 10 years ago he met a guy in Chuncheon who wrote and performed the original song. After the original singer broke up with his love, he could no longer sing the song anymore and gave the song to him. Oh Man-Bok is convinced the original singer is her father.

The dirge singer is paid to attend funerals and mourn for the dead. They are viewed as belonging to the lowest class. Yeon-Sim (Kim You-Jung) is brought up by her mother (Hwang Mi-Seon) to become a dirge singer like herself. Yeon-Sim refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps and cry for others. She flees to a home to become a gisaeng. Yun-Su (Seo Jun-Young) was born out of wedlock and is only half a noble person. Because of his birth status, he can't attain the stature that his brother (Kim Dong-Yun) has. Yun-Su and Yeon-Sim meet at a delicate moment in their lives.

Meanwhile, Sa-Rang (Kim Seul-Gi) worked with Choi U-Jin at his former office job and likes him a lot. In fact, she was the only woman who liked him there.

Lee Hae-Jun (Kwak Dong-Yeon) transfers to a new middle school in an affluent area of Seoul. At his previous school, Lee Hae-Jun was the top ranked student in his grade. While going to his first day of class at his new school, he sees a girl leaning over a bridge. Thinking she may jump, he pulls her to the ground which she does not appreciate. Later that day, Lae Hae-Jun learns the girl he saw earlier is Jo Eun-Seo (Lee Yul-Eum). She's currently the top ranked student at his new school. 3 months later, with new test scores released, Lee Hae-Jun takes the top spot and bumps Jo Eun-Seo down to #2. Meanwhile, Jo Eun-Seo vows that Lee Hae-Jun won't beat her again. She recruits her classmate Jeong Na-Yeon (Lee Han-Na) to help her retake the top spot. Lee Hae-Jun finds himself falling for Jo Eun-Seo.

Without having anywhere to go, Heo Jin-Uk visits Ji Yeon-Su. Her personal life is far different than what he envisioned.
